In forming our Bullrun line, we have treated our selection process, in a way, similarly to the scheme referred to as Population Genetics, used by Garrick Batten of New Zealand to develop the Kiko composite breed of goat.
Since registering our first Bulldogge in 1987 we have witnessed an explosion in the popularity of the “breed”. The ensuing number of litter postings has provided a huge population to select from. With the dramatic increase in the number of people working to improve different lines within the breed some truly fine quality OEB’s have been surfacing. We have tried to use our experience to take advantage of this tremendous population. We have spared no expense to buy, trial and x-ray several dogs we did not opt to use. The primary dogs we have used to build our family were selected using our original ideals of a refined versatile temperament, structural soundness, physical health, and a noble appearance. Because of past experience we have favored generational bloodlines for consistency and blended them to try to achieve a genetic health based, gene diversity.
Over the years we have refined our line thanks to the contributions of many individuals and we are grateful and indebted to each and every one of them for their efforts.
From the beginning our plan has been to use the highest breeding standard possible. With the knowledge that form follows function, and that polygenic traits are the hardest to attain, we are breeding our Bullrun line of Olde English Bulldogges, to the best of our ability in a continuous up-breeding program.
At Bullrun we will continue with our original concept of a noble, hardy “farm duty” Olde English Bulldogge. Having consistently maintained a keen interest in genetics we have remained low key while paying attention to serious breeding programs that were highly selective in concentrating favorable and purging defective gene pools. As we strive for breed improvement we will do our best not to compromise our line with suspect genetics. We believe that patience and the experience to select truly outstanding individuals, along with sound breeding principles are resulting in the highest quality Olde English Bulldogges with genetics worth passing on.
We have tried to use our 20-plus years of experience to build our line of the very best Olde English Bulldogge stock. Thank you for your interest.
