Welcome to Bullrun Bulldogge Ranch. We love healthy, hardy Olde English Bulldogges and have pursued this type for over 20 years. We became involved with the breed very early on in its existence and have a documented history. In 1987 we started our line of Bulldogges that we registered with the Animal Research Foundation in Quinlan, Texas.
Mr. David Leavitt founded the Olde English Bulldogge breed and tried to use healthy x-rayed, professionally screened stock with pump handle tails. We believe in these standards and have seriously strived to adhere to them. Because upgrading the genetic health of the English Bulldog was the original basis of this breed, to us hip dysplaysia is a very perplexing and prevalent problem that, along with sound knees, should not be ignored. It is a most complex trait that is exceedingly hard to purge, this is why it has been overlooked for generations.
It is extremely heart breaking to not be able to use, an excellent brood prospect, a dearly loved family member or a significant investment simply because sound structure was overlooked in previous generations. Because of that we long ago made it our priority to try to breed our line starting with sound dysplasia-free Bulldogges. Unfortunately we learned early on that first, because of the limited and scattered nature of the breed’s gene pool, dysplasia-free foundation stock was almost non-existent and second, the fact that in early development two non-dysplastic dogs can and probably will produce some dysplaysia, all dogs must be x-rayed and most will not be able to be used. This goal would be nearly impossible and at best, very time consuming and expensive to attain. After all the pups and dogs that we have invested untold time and money on but that did not pass our screening we have taken the loss and ended up with a handful from which to build. We are finally making some very good progress. We’ve seen this claim of screening made by others but if sound structure is truly important to you, buyer beware. After x-raying and screening numerous bulldogges we feel that unbiased screening is most critical for improvement, that’s why we have verified foundation stock with the extremely demanding Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and x-ray everything, in a true “up-breeding” program.
From the beginning our intent has been to breed for soundness and survivability first while maintaining, “bully” looks, good temperament and the conformation of the Olde English Bulldogge standard. We have been very patient in building a sound “Bully” foundation and the genetics we possess today reflect this. We have never sold many puppies but that’s ok, this is our hobby not our business. I believe our track record proves that we are Olde English Bulldogge breeders for the right reasons. Our main emphasis will always be quality not quantity. Please take a look for yourself!.
