Welcome! We are the original Bull Run Bulldogge Kennel started by Dale Hillegas in the 1980’s. We breed only Olde English Bulldogges. In 1987 we began working on our own line, which we first registered with the Animal Research Foundation in Quinlan, Texas as the Mountain Bulldog. We are the only original Bull Run Olde Bulldogges! For years we have been quietly building and rebuilding our line, and therefore claim copyrights to our name

The Olde English Bulldogge is a re-creation of the original English Bulldog, capable of working, but without the viciousness of the early bull baiting catch dog. For us an ideal Olde Bulldogge is as “bully” as possible, but still capable of working if desired, not too aggressive and very friendly and trustworthy with children. We have been very particular about the “show variety” English Bulldog influence behind our dogs. The “show variety” English Bulldog is rated by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals as #1 for incidence of hip dysplasia and has been used extensively in the development of the Olde English Bulldogge breed. Over half the dogs suffering from hip dysplasia do not even show impaired function. The problem is, when bred they certainly pass on the defective genes.

At this time, everything on our yard has been x-rayed and professionally screened and we have produced several Bulldogges that have been certified by the highly reputable Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. We also have a number of upcoming planned breedings that should produce some very “bully” pups with hip structure capable of being certified..

Along with the classic bulldog look, we have selected for natural heat tolerance, sound structure, health, hardiness and temperament by actually using many of our dogs as working livestock guardians to protect our small stock (Goats and Sheep) from predators on our Midwest ranch. Through years of patience and persistence where no dogs have been bred prior to x-raying, we have tried to select and retain a very hardy and dysplasia free gene pool. Our program and the concept of a dysplasia free line started many years ago but it became necessary to rebuild the genetics. I’ve screened a lot of dogs to end up with what I currently have registered as the Bull Run Line. The elite offspring of these dogs, which possess the traits to pass our screening process, are being double registered with the original OEB registry, the “ARF” as “Mountain Bulldogges”.

We specialize in dysplasia free stock and are very proud to be producing OFA certified Olde English Bulldogges that meet the breed standard. For a truly unique Olde English Bulldogge, Bull Run is second to none!
